Indianapolis 500 Closest Finishes

#3 Indy 500 1982 – Gordon Johncock and Rick Mears battle tooth and nail to the finish as hundreds of thousands of spectators cheer. I actually wanted Mears to win that race, but it was great being there to see it! This is the 3rd closest finish.

#2 Hornish Jr. fell behind after Andretti closed the door on the next-to-last lap, but Hornish Jr. roared back on the final lap. This is the 2nd closest finish.

In 1992, the finish was the closest finish in Indy 500 history. Al Unser Jr. inched out Scott Goodyear by 0.043 seconds to win the race.
